Description: Teachers play a critical role in ensuring that child-care centers meet Texas Minimum Standards every day. This training provides educators with a clear understanding of their responsibilities under Chapter 746, including supervision, professionalism, safety practices, documentation, and adherence to state regulations. Participants will explore real scenarios, common compliance risks, and practical strategies to consistently meet state expectations in the classroom. By strengthening teacher awareness and accountability, programs can operate safely, avoid deficiencies, and create a culture of quality and compliance. (This description is supported by the responsibilities listed in §746.1201 General Employee Responsibilities and §746.1203 Additional Caregiver Responsibilities, which require staff to demonstrate competency, report maltreatment, know and comply with minimum standards, supervise children at all times, and avoid non-child-focused tasks.)

By the end of this course, you will be able to…

  • Identify key teacher responsibilities required by Texas Minimum Standards Including: demonstrating competency, maintaining self-control, promoting respectful interactions, recognizing abuse/neglect, and complying with all rules applicable to caregivers (Aligned with §746.1201 (1–5)). 
  • Apply proper supervision practices to maintain child safety and prevent deficiencies Including: active supervision, knowing where children are at all times, avoiding distractions, and aligning with §746.1203(2) on supervising children at all times. 
  • Demonstrate how to maintain compliance through daily routines, documentation, and classroom practices Including: avoiding non-care tasks that remove attention from children, maintaining safe environments, following center policies, and understanding how teacher actions impact compliance findings (Aligned with §746.1203(3–4)).
