Description: Healthy equips early childhood educators with the knowledge and skills needed to promote wellness, respond appropriately to illness, and implement daily health practices that support the safety and well-being of young children. This session emphasizes the educator’s role in creating healthy learning environments through prevention, observation, communication, and consistent routines. Participants will explore proactive strategies for maintaining healthy settings, including daily health checks, allergy awareness, sanitation, and effective communication with families. The session also addresses how to respond to illness with professionalism and compassion, including exclusion criteria, medication administration, and supporting children with chronic health conditions. Educators will further examine developmentally appropriate health practices such as handwashing, diapering, toileting, nutrition, rest, and helping children learn about their bodies in respectful, age-appropriate ways.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to: 

  • Identify strategies early childhood educators use to promote wellness and prevent the spread of illness in early learning environments, including daily health checks, sanitation practices, and allergy awareness. 
  • Demonstrate appropriate responses to childhood illness by applying exclusion guidelines, medication administration procedures, and compassionate care practices that protect the health and safety of all children. 
  • Apply developmentally appropriate health practices that support children’s well-being, including handwashing, nutrition, diapering, toileting, rest routines, and respectful guidance related to children’s bodies.
