Description: A child’s sense of self is shaped through daily interactions, meaningful experiences, and supportive relationships. This course explores how early childhood professionals intentionally build children’s self-concept, confidence, resilience, and identity through responsive teaching practices and nurturing environments.
Participants will examine the role of adult interactions in shaping self-belief, explore practical strategies for promoting positive self-concepts, and learn how to create classroom experiences that affirm children’s strengths, culture, language, and individuality. Emphasis is placed on guiding children through success, setbacks, and growth while partnering with families to reinforce belonging and identity.
By the end of this training, you will be able to:
- Explain how self-concept develops in early childhood - Participants will define self-concept and describe how adult interactions, early experiences, and relationships influence a child’s developing sense of self.
- Apply strategies that promote positive self-concept and resilience - Participants will identify and implement effective techniques such as meaningful task success, acceptance and respect, positive feedback, peer interaction opportunities, and guidance through setbacks.
- Design classroom environments and family partnerships that affirm identity and belonging - Participants will evaluate and create classroom practices that support children’s culture, language, strengths, routines, and family engagement to strengthen confidence and identity.
