Crisis Management For Early Childhood Educators: How to Respond When it Matters Most

Crisis Management for Early Childhood Educators: How to Respond When it Matters Most

ONLINE course Details

Description: When a crisis happens, teachers are the first line of protection for the children in their care. This course prepares early childhood educators to respond with confidence and clarity during high-threat emergencies including lockdowns and active shooter situations. Participants will learn how to execute lockdown procedures quickly and calmly, practice age-appropriate strategies for keeping young children quiet, calm, and safe during a threatening event, understand the Run-Hide-Fight framework as it applies to early childhood settings, and recognize the signs that a situation is escalating so they can act before it reaches a critical level. It also covers supporting children emotionally after a frightening event, reuniting each child with a verified adult, and reviewing and practicing the plan so the center stays ready.

By the end of this course, you will be able to…

  • Recognize potential warning signs, environmental concerns, and behaviors that may indicate an escalating threat in an early childhood setting.
  • Analyze emergency response procedures, including lockdown protocols and the Run-Hide-Fight framework, to determine appropriate actions during high-threat situations.
  • Apply age-appropriate safety and response strategies to protect, calm, and support young children during and after a crisis event.
  • Plan family reunification, communication, after-action review and year-round practice so a center recovers and stays ready.
