Understanding children’s behavior starts with understanding the child. In early childhood settings, educators are often faced with challenging behaviors, emotional outbursts, and uncertainty about what is developmentally appropriate. This training equips participants with the knowledge and practical strategies needed to interpret behavior through a developmental and trauma-informed lens. Participants will explore how children grow, what influences their behavior, and how to respond in ways that support learning, self-regulation, and positive relationships. This session goes beyond surface-level behavior management to help educators respond with confidence, intention, and effectiveness in real classroom situations.

TOPICS:

• Trauma-Informed Practices in Child Care: Learn how trauma and stress impact young children’s behavior, emotions, and ability to learn. This topic explores how to recognize signs of trauma, create emotionally safe environments, and respond to children with sensitivity and support rather than punishment.
  
• What’s Right for Their Age: The Power of Developmentally Appropriate Practice: Understand what behaviors are typical at each stage of development and how to set realistic expectations for young children. Participants will learn how to plan and respond in ways that align with children’s age, abilities, and developmental needs.
  
• Biting Behavior in Early Childhood: Why It Happens and What to Do: Take a focused look at one of the most common and challenging behaviors in early childhood settings. This topic breaks down why biting occurs, how to prevent it, and how to respond effectively to support both the child who bites and the child who is bitten.

Virtual Learning Requirements 

 To attend your virtual class, you must log in from a computer with a working camera and audio, using a reliable internet connection (phones are not allowed). You must remain on camera for the entire session, fully engaged and free from distractions—this includes no caregiving duties, work tasks, or participating from a vehicle. Active participation in discussions, polls, and questions is required. Attendance will be checked randomly. Late arrivals, early departures, or failure to meet these requirements will result in removal from the class with no refund.
